Application tips

How to use the Plump Up Microneedle, according to our skincare expert

  1. Thoroughly double cleanse your skin, then rinse the microneedle with warm water and shake off any excess

  2. Hold your microneedle at the base with your index finger resting on the handle for stability

  3. Working in small sections, roll your microneedle back and forth, twice horizontally and twice vertically, per area – use light, feathering motions and don’t exert any force or pressure

  4. This technique should be used on your forehead, cheeks, chin, neck and décolleté – take extra care on areas where the skin is thinnest, such as your forehead and neck, and never microneedle on the eyelids

  5. To microneedle your nose, pass the microneedle downwards twice on either side of the nose

  6. Microneedle above the lips by moving the microneedle outwards from above the Cupid’s bow to the corners of the lip – do this twice on each side

  7. Apply a hydrating serum like Plump Up, our advanced peptide and hyaluronic acid serum

  8. Spray the microneedle with the cleaning spray and replace the protective cap after every use

Your microneedle FAQs

The handle of the Plump Up Microneedle is made of ABS plastic and the microneedles are made of stainless steel. The stainless steel used for our microneedle head contains nickel. If you have a known allergy to these materials, please refrain from using this product.

The main difference between at-home and in-clinic microneedling is the needle length. At-home needles are shorter and only target the very top layer of skin (the epidermis). This length of needle is safe and easy to use at home and is a powerful way to improve the overall skin tone, texture and visible signs of ageing. In-clinic microneedles are longer and can reach the deeper layer of your skin (the dermis). This helps to reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles, acne scars and stretch marks. The longer needles have the potential to cause damage to the skin which is why it has to be performed by a trained professional.

We recommend applying Plump Up, our award-winning peptide and hyaluronic acid serum, after using the Plump Up Microneedle for best results. Please make sure to avoid using products containing retinoids (retinal, retinol etc.), alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), and vitamin C for at least 24 hours before and after microneedling.

The Plump Up Microneedle has been designed with lots of tiny, compact needles (540 to be exact) that make microneedling at home pain-free. If you make sure to always use featherlight motions with no added pressure, at-home microneedling shouldn’t break the skin or cause any bleeding. A little pinkness is normal, but if you do experience any pain, tingling or burning, make sure to stop microneedling straight away.

When used correctly, an at-home microneedle is a safe and effective method to boost skin’s quality, regardless of your skin tone. However, deeper skin tones are more prone to pigmentation and/or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, such as from insect bites, cuts or blemishes – if that sounds familiar, we would not recommend microneedling.

You can use The Plump Up Microneedle all year round, including in the summer. However, microneedling can make the skin temporarily sensitive and more susceptible to sun damage, so it’s important to microneedle only in the evenings and to always wear a broad-spectrum SPF the following day, avoiding prolonged direct sun exposure if possible.

When developing the Plump Up Microneedle, we opted for the roller mechanism over a pen as we wanted to focus on larger, flat areas of the face as opposed to smaller, targeted areas. The roller mechanism is a more convenient way of microneedling and we wanted to ensure that it could be easily incorporated into your evening skincare routine.

T-Tips

What to know before you start microneedling

  1. Avoid facial treatments (such as waxing, peels and injectables) a week before microneedling

  2. Use up to three times a week on non-consecutive nights

  3. Avoid using the microneedle on the same night as your retinoids (retinal, retinol etc.), alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or Vitamin C. Use them on alternative nights, leaving at least 24 hours in-between

  4. Don’t microneedle on skin that is sensitive, broken or has active blemishes

  5. Be sure to replace the head of your microneedle every 24 uses, as the needles will start to blunt
