Navy has to be my favourite shade of blue, and it’s a colour that everyone can wear. It goes with so much more than black, it's more flattering and forgiving, and it has truly become an integral part of my wardrobe over the years.
To feel confident in navy, it’s important to consider the tone against your skin. Ladies with cooler skin may not want to feel washed out by a bright navy tone, and ladies with warmer skin could consider a more teal-coloured navy.
However, I know the feeling of loving an item so much that whether the tone suits you or not is irrelevant - it’s all about how you can style it to make it suit you.
Different shades of navy don’t all go together - when the tones are identical, the outfit feels seamless. My trick is to put the shade of Navy that suits me most close to my face, and then dress it with complementary tones for that put-together feeling.
Layering navy with navy requires careful consideration to ensure that subtle clashes are avoided. I like to match my socks to my outfit, to carry the shade of navy as far down my body as possible, and elongate my legs. I consider keeping my outfits clean, but simply adore a Breton stripe to give my outfit a more Parisian feel.
So ladies, consider paying attention to proportions, prints and those subtle tonal nuances, and have fun finding the shade of navy that suits you best.
