Ladies, if you've been following me for a while you'll know leopard is very close to my heart. When people say it's a trend, I can't help but disagree: for me, it's such a must, a truly timeless staple. The most important thing to say about leopard is that it's a classic. There's an association with leopard which is that it can be super chic or really trashy so understandably some women are scared of it.
There are definitely some dos and don'ts with leopard depending on your extent of outrageousness and your life stage, etc. So the idea of doing a skimpy chiffon leopard dress and a bright lip when you're over 50, to me, it needs structure. What I've discovered is the further I go down the path of life, my leopard is more structured, or it covers more of my skin.
If you're a complete leopard novice, a great way of starting is with accessories. They're an excellent way of tapping into something. For me, that means a scarf and mine is an oldie but a goodie from Louis Vuitton. It's an easy way to keep the look clean. The same goes for shoes, I love to wear my Stella McCartneys for a little pop of leopard.
I can't express how much I love leopard on leopard on leopard. Some say it's wild (rather appropriately) but leopards are my basic. Is 6 leopard-print items at once too much? I don't think so; I break the look up with a white trainer... and I love the energy and joyfulness behind the look. It's mad, but it's all a family of madness together.
One of my favourites is obviously... leopard and sequin. These Essential Antwerp trousers are really rather divine and I'm so glad I found them. Another excellent item is a gilet, specifically my Stella McCartney version I found on Vestiaire Collective. That's because you can create these interesting coats by styling them with varying sleeves underneath.
Another of my favourite looks is wearing leopard with colour, specifically bright colour. it really brings out the joy in the print. So ladies, be bold and remember, leopard isn't just for safari...
