one of the newest & most exciting ingredients

Skincare

Today ladies and boys, we’re talking peptides. A new word in the world of skincare, but for me, this is one of the most exciting ingredients out there.

Peptides are short-chain amino acids that function as the foundational block in our skin, responsible for building up collagen. When my skin is in need of some collagen-boosting assistance, then I’ll reach for a peptide. So, if you’re looking for something extra special to add to your regime and are tempted by formulas with lots of active ingredients, consider these skin-plumping formulas...

*N.B. Do not apply on your own lashes or eye area.

First up is Matrixyl 10% + HA by The Ordinary (£9.60). This one contains Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 and hyaluronic acid to help firm the skin while retaining water, for double the skin-plumping effect. This is a great introduction to peptides – a lovely serum that’s very well-formulated.

Next, we have Anti-Aging MultiPeptide Serum by Garden of Wisdom (£20). This one contains syn-coll (Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5) as well as argireline and claims to inhibit the formulation of expression lines. This has a slightly thicker viscosity for those of you who are looking to give your skin a little extra bounce.

Liquid Peptides™ by Medik8 (£45) is one that I’ve loved and used religiously for the last six months. This one is great for a nighttime routine and is an effective treatment for spotty skin thanks to the copper peptides inside. It also contains carnosine that we naturally produce to stop unwanted sugars binding to collagen and producing wrinkles, as well as argirelox™ to prevent expression lines.

Finally, we have Peptide Booster by Paula’s Choice. (£48), there are about eight different peptides in here, including tripeptides for firmness and palmitoyl peptide for smoothness, and lastly azelaoyl bis-dipeptide-10 for evening out hyperpigmentation. It’s a gorgeous all-rounder.

Each of these peptides works well for a slightly different skin type, so there’s plenty of opportunities for you to start your peptide ride…
