Senior Product Innovation Manager

The purpose of this new role is to manage the scoping and development of new innovations in cosmetics from pre-concept stage to launch. Reporting to the CIO, the Senior Product Innovation Manager manage a small team and will be responsible for the upfront scoping of a new product concepts, consumer insights generation, product briefing, packaging development, design development, evaluation of prototypes, business case development, costings, product story and claims development of new innovative product launches.


Reporting to: Chief Innovation Officer

Location: Chelsea, London & working from home during Covid restrictions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

● Build strong innovative product concepts with clear selling points based on consumer and technical insights to an agreed product launch plan

● Work with the CIO to develop category strategies and a long term Innovation pipeline

● Manage a small team of 2-4 people in the creation and development of new innovative products

● Product Innovation – identify relevant trends in products, ingredients, formulas and packaging

● Product R&D (product, form, component innovation) work closely with our NPD Delivery team to direct third party R&D departments from brief through final approval

● Business case development including pricing, COG targets

● Primary & secondary package development (functionality and structural design)

● Product artwork briefing and approval

● Product Communication (Features/Benefits)

o Formula Approval

o Initial Sample/prototype development

● Collaborate with cross functional teams (marketing, NPD, operations, and external regulatory) in the communication of product stories and input into product launch strategies and execution

● Develop a category product plan which defines market trends, opportunities and risks within the cosmetic/beauty category

● Analyze market & sales data, identify competitive strengths and weaknesses and opportunities

● Have a keen awareness of worldwide innovations, trends, consumer feedback and competitor activity both in mass and prestige

● Perform other assigned reasonable projects and functions by management


Qualifications/Skills:

● Minimum of 10 years in a key Marketing/Product Development management role within a Consumer Packaged Goods company in the cosmetic/beauty/HBA industry
● BA/BSc Degree is required
● Strong background in the product development process
● People/ team management experience
● Passionate about skincare, beauty and fashion, creative and willing to take risks to develop unique product concepts/ideas to positively expose our brand and create greater visibility to set us apart from competitors
● Strong interpersonal skills, ability to develop relationships and communicate with all levels of management.
● Strong analytical skills, proactive approach to anticipate issues and provide solutions
● Highly organized and calendar driven, with the ability to handle many competing priorities
● Speed to market and able to work in fast paced, start-up work environment
● Results oriented, excellent ability to utilize and manage the organization's resources to achieve goals
● Proficient with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint
