Busy

Our skin’s needs change depending on the seasons. During the winter, it has whipping winds, plummeting temperatures and moisture-zapping central heating to contend with. In the summer, it’s rising humidity, heatwaves and chlorine. If you haven’t already switched up your skincare to match the change in weather, our simple guide has you covered…

The best skincare for summer, whether you’re jetting off or staying put FAQ

Commit to double cleansing

Do you double cleanse? Now is the time to start. The combination of daily SPF and summer-induced sweat can quickly block pores if they’re not both thoroughly removed at the end of the day. Be Your Best, our enzyme balm cleanser, comes first to remove even stubborn makeup before following with Better Off, our AHA/PHA gel cleanser, to clear pores.

Clear congestion

Our skin is constantly turning over, replacing old, no-longer-needed cells with shiny new ones. The problem is that this process slows as we age, causing these older cells to outstay their welcome and risk congesting our skin – especially when they combine with makeup and sebum. A liquid exfoliant will help break down the bonds holding these cells to the surface, clearing your complexion in the process. Tiptoe In, our PHA exfoliant, is perfect for beginners or those with sensitive skin. Find Your Balance, our BHA exfoliant, suits oily skin types and Reveal Yourself, our AHA exfoliant, is for experienced acid users.

Manage oil flow

Oil is brilliant at keeping our skin soft and supple, but you can have too much of a good thing during the summer. Niacinamide is a brilliant ingredient for balancing oil flow, and you can find it in Overnight Sensation, our retinal/niacinamide serum.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Just as we need to drink more water when the weather is warmer, our skin needs an extra layer of hydration to stop it from drying out. Plump Up, our peptide⁺ HA serum, is not just packed with hardworking peptides to firm and lift, but also hero hydrator hyaluronic acid to draw moisture into thirsty skin.

Apply and reapply SPF every day

If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times: SPF is a daily non-negotiable, even when it’s cloudy outside. Once the sun is shining, it becomes even more important to shield skin from UVB rays.

Oily skin types have a surplus of sebum, but they can still be lacking in water. If you have oily skin, don’t fall into the trap of forgoing moisturiser in the hope of keeping shine at bay. Instead, make sure you’re replacing moisture lost to things like sunshine, chlorine and sea water with a hydrating serum like Plump Up and a lightweight moisturiser like Energise Me.

The easiest way to stop sunscreen from clogging your pores is to choose a formula that won’t clog them in the first place. See The Light, our SPF 50+ moisturiser is lightweight, non-greasy and powered by sophisticated filters that won’t drive congestion.

There’s a time and a place for a rich, indulgent moisturiser, and that is not during a heatwave. When the mercury rises, swap heavy moisturisers for lighter textures, like Energise Me, our niacinamide moisturiser with a fresh, gel-cream feel. If you have oily skin, you might even find that your SPF alone gives your skin enough hydration during the day.
